When I arrive in South Africa in just a little over four weeks (yes! that soon!), I will be arriving in the middle of their winter. I don't often equate Africa with cold temperatures, but as you move away from the equator it does, indeed, get cold there ... very cold, in fact. One current Peace Corps volunteer recently reported that it was 26 degrees outside and 36 degrees inside her home. She strongly encouraged that us newbies pack long underwear, heavy socks, gloves, scarves, wool hats, and a hot water bottle! Sounds like great advice.
